Absolver is an ARPG (action role-playing game) that is focused on martial arts. Sloclap developed the video game and Devolver Digital published it for Windows and PlayStation 4.

Development

Sloclap began working on this game in May 2015. Previously, the team had worked on games such as the series of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Watch Dogs. The core game concept of the developer was to have a fluid and dynamic movement that is similar to dance. Sloclap expressed that core concept through the three internal taglines in the game’s development: “make a move”, “movement is your weapon” and “combat is a dance”.
Pierre Tarno, the creative director of the game, liked how players are capable of experimenting with the combat deck and find a set that they prefer.

Absolver’s Release Date

The game was first announced on 26 May 2016; it debuted at the E3 2016 (Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016), and it was released in Aug 2017.

Absolver’s Gameplay

The game features an open world with free-roaming and shortcuts, as well as cooperative, competitive play and merging single in the same campaign, played from a third-person view. Players create custom combinations of feints, parries and strikes to fight computer-controlled characters and other players. Players control warrior characters called Prospect, travelling the Adal fiction land to fight the other players to prove their worth of becoming one of the peacekeepers of Absolvers.bPlayers advance through the game and unlock new equipment and armour, weapons as well as combat styles. This is often as a “loot” that the defeated enemies drop.

Features

Absolver has minor elements of MMOG (massively multiplayer online game). That includes the feature of fighting beside other players on quests as well as fighting other players directly in match-ups of player versus player. Also, players can spar with others teaching their character’s skills.

Fighting Move Customisation

Players customise the fighting moves of their characters (move set) by removing and adding cards that are in a “combat deck”. Each card is allocated to a particular move. Also, players can switch between a total of four fighting stances during battle. That changes the moves that are available to the player. All the fighting stances have two attacks, all having their controller buttons.
